To say that next week will be an historic time for our country would be an understatement at best. In addition to the inauguration of our country’s first African American president on Tuesday, we’ll also celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. day on Monday.
To honor Dr. King, President-elect Obama has asked Americans to spend the day giving back to their communities. The website www.usaservice.org has more than 8,500 events taking place across the country throughout the weekend and on Monday, all of which need volunteers.
Many of the events will give volunteeers a chance to get their food fix on while they give their time. You can pitch in by delivering groceries to senior citizens, preparing and delivering meals to the homeless or dropping off food for food drives. This is just a sampling of different volunteer opportunities available. I encourage you to visit the website and find an event near you.
Happy Day of Service!
